Former Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee has become the first woman chief minister of West Bengal. Mamata became the first non-Marxist chief minister of Bengal after 34 year.
Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has taken over as the first woman chief minister of West Bengal. Mamta was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor MK Narayanan at the Raj Bhawan in Kolkata at 1.01 PM on Friday.
Before leaving for the Raj Bhawan she thanked her supporters for the massive election victory.
“Thank you for your support. We need to keep calm and work. I will not meet anyone for seven days as I need to work a lot in the next couple of days. I need to take care of economic condition of the state. I will work day and night,” she said.
The Trinamool-Congress alliance bagged 227 of the 294 seats in the state assembly, with the Trinamool alone bagging 184 seats.
