Friday was the most worst day for all Delhi people as 1000′s of autorickshaws went off the roads as part of indefinite strike. The main reason for auto strike was that auto unions demanding that the Delhi government pay for the installation of Global Positioning System (GPS) devices in their vehicles.
Due to the strike the Delhi people have to face a lot of problems, especially the working class. People had to wait for buses or look for other modes of transportation.
The owners of autorickshaws have no problems with the GPS installation. Their demand is that they should not be paying the annual charges of Rs.15,000 for the installation. The government should bear this cost. The cost of the device was initially estimated at Rs.15,000, but was later brought down to Rs.7,500 after negotiations.
More than half of Delhi’s 55,000 autorickshaws went off the roads from Thursday midnight to protest the government.
