Looks like Dhanush can do no wrong this season. Soft spoken and reticent, he has always marched to a different tune and proved that he is a fine actor with Vetrimaran directed Aadukalam. Much to the awe of the industry, he has bagged the most coveted National Award as Best Actor, a truly deserving one.
In his first-ever interview after winning the award Dhanush spoke to Sridevi Sreedhar. Excerpts

KP Karuppu has done the magic for you. Did you expect this award?(Laughs) KP Karuppu seems to be a magician. It took me a lot of time to get out of the skin of Karuppu. I am sure to miss him (smiles). After the release of Aadukalam, I had moved on with my other projects and I never expected this award.
What is your current state of mind?If I have to be frank, my mind is blank. Can't say why, but when I heard the news of me winning the National award, the first thought that came to my mind is that of a 5 year old boy walking 7 kilometres to school in the hot sun, years back. And that was me. I am still unable to figure out, why it came to my mind, but I know it's strange.
You are the youngest actor to have bagged the National Award. Please comment?The kind of response and acknowledgement I’ve got from my audiences right from my first film has always been fair and overwhelming. And to know that I am the youngest actor, to have won the award is indeed a great feeling. But what I feel proud is that my character of Karuppu was raw and real, with no make-up. The film was rooted in Tamil culture and was realistic.
Are you happy?Yes, I am extremely happy. I thank the National award jury for selecting Aadukalam, a film which director Vetrimaran made with a lot of involvement right from scripting to the day of release. I thank my parents, my brother Selva who taught me the art and made me an actor and Vetrimaran for giving me such an awesome script and being a great friend. I am also happy for Dinesh master, editor Kishore and everyone associated with the film who won awards.

National Award winners for the year 2011 has been announced and here are the list of winners for the Tamil Film industry. Aadukalam bags most number of awards under 6 categories. Then Merku Paruva Katru and Rajinikanth starer Shankar's Endhiran has won National awards under 3 categories
