TIGERS POPULATION UP BY 20% - INDIAN TIGER ESTIMATE 2010

Ministry of Environment and Forests declared the official tiger estimate in India 2010.According to the latest census,the current population of these Indian cats are 1,706 including 70 from Sundarban as compared to 1411 (acc. to last count in 2007).

The estimate conducted by the National Tiger Conservation Authority in association with its various partner organisations.
The estimate is conducted every four year.

The estimate project was launched by the Minister for Environment and Forests, Mr.Jairam Ramesh.

Indian tigers are killed for the bones , skins and claws due to its medicinal properties.These are more in demands in Asian countries like Tibet,China,Taiwan and Korea.But i think campaigns like “Save the Tiger” by NDTV, “Save Our Tigers” and many other campaigns are having a positive impact on  the tigers population.
