The wait is over, after 28 long years India finally has the World Cup 2011. The dream of a billion people came true on 2nd April 2011, after beating Sri lanka by 6 wickets at the Wankehde Stadium (Mumbai).

Sri Lanka made a fantastic total of 274 with Mahela Jayawadhane scoring 103 in 88 balls

Lasith Malinga gave early blow to Indian by taking quick wickets of Sehwag (0) and Tendulkar (18). It was Gambhir (the iron man of Indian Cricket team) along with Captain Dhoni who brought back much needed stability in the game, with Gambhir scoring a 97 and Dhoni scoring 91 not out, to lead India to a historic win at the Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. 

Gambhir’s and Dhoni’s Knock helped India to win the ICC World Cup 2011 by 6 Wickets against Sri Lanka. It was a Phenomenal and Emotional moment  for whole Indian Cricket team when Dhoni hit a huge 6 to finish the match with style. 

Everyone from the dressing room came down to celebrate the moment, with nearly everyone having tears in their eyes. The team took a Victory Lap at Wankhede, with Sachin on the Shoulders of players.
